Court resumes meeting of family and lawyers with Imran Khan twice a week
Islamabad High Court (IHC) has barred Salman Akram Raja and other leaders from talking to the media after the meeting.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday resumed the meeting of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s family and lawyers for two days a week. A larger bench comprising Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, and Justice Muhammad Azam heard the case. Adiala Jail’s counsel appeared before the court and told the court that PTI founder Imran Khan’s status changed after his conviction. Before the conviction, lawyers and family members were meeting the PTI founder weekly. Till December, jail meetings were being held under the same SOPs. Founder PTI’s status became a convicted prisoner from an undertrial prisoner. There were also security threats. The acting Chief Justice said that every person comes with a request that I should also be met in jail, to which the lawyer jail superintendent said that they use jail meetings for political purposes. Chief Justice Islamabad High Court said that what is the need for media talk after the jail meeting. They meet and go away, take the undertaking from them so that they do not talk to the media after the jail meeting. Later, the court ordered PTI founder Imran Khan to meet the lawyers on Tuesday and the family on Thursday. The Islamabad High Court has also ordered that there will be no media talk after meeting the founder of PTI, whoever meets Imran Khan will not do media talk. Imran Khan’s coordinator Salman Akram Raja will be able to meet only whatever name he gives. Acting Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar directed the pti founder to apply to the trial court to meet the children. Earlier, the Islamabad High Court had fixed all the cases of meetings with Imran Khan in jail for hearing. A three-member larger bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Sardar Sarfraz Dogar and comprising Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Justice Azam Khan will hear the cases.
