Inspector Adeel Rana, Captain Waheed Akhtar, and Detective Rohail Khalid are among the top leaders of organizations representing 4,500 Muslim and Pakistani American police officers in the New York Police Department.

The New York Police Department is one of the largest police departments in the United States, with more than 36,000 uniformed and more than 19,000 civilian employees serving. A large number of Muslim and Pakistani-American police officers are also serving in America’s largest police department. Inspector Adeel Rana is the first Pakistani-American police officer to reach the rank of inspector in the New York Police Department. Inspector Adeel Rana served as president of the Muslim Officers Society (NYPD MOS), a representative organization of Muslim American police officers in the New York Police Department, for three terms. More than 3,000 Muslim Americans are serving in the New York Police Department, and the Muslim Officers Society is a representative organization of these police officers and officials.

In the middle is Detective Rohail Khalid, president of the Pakistani American Law Enforcement Society (NYPD PALS), a representative organization of Pakistani-American police officers serving in the New York Police Department. About 650 Pakistani-American police officers are serving in the New York Police Department. Captain Waheed Akhtar (on the left) in the photo under review. Captain Waheed Akhtar is the first Pakistani-American to be promoted to the rank of Captain in the New York Police Department. Captain Waheed Akhtar is currently the President of the Muslim Officers Society, a representative organization of Muslim American Police Officers in the New York Police Department. According to Captain Waheed Akhtar, when he joined the police department 20 years ago, the number of Pakistani and Muslim officers, especially executives, in the department was very low, but at present 51 Muslim American police officers are posted and serving in executive posts in the New York Police Department. The Muslim and Pakistani American community say they are proud of the services of their heroes serving in the police department and they always pray for the progress and safety of not only them but all the officers who have served.
